California Cider Competition & MASICC Announce Winners for 2016 Competitions
The public is invited to taste the hard cider winners and pairings at the Mendocino County Fair & Apple Show, September 17 and 18 Boonville, CA (September 9, 2016) The 3rd annual California Cider Competition, the state’s only cider contest, announced the winners of its 2016 challenge.

Last night saw the awards ceremony for the Australia’s best ciders at the 2015 Cider Australia Awards. Last year, somewhat controversially, the top gong went to the British cider maker Thatchers with their Somerset Gold. This year the top award stayed local. The country’s best cider is about to be celebrated and the good folk of Melbourne are invited to the party for the Cider Festival 2014.
More than 1500 people are expected to flock to this weekend’s Australian Cider Festival, which will be held in Melbourne for the first time.
Ormond Hall at The Village Melbourne will come to life on Saturday and Sunday, with over 20 stalls sampling dozens of cider and perry styles.
Last night Sydney Olympic Park played host to the 2014 Royal Agricultural Society Sydney Royal Beer And Cider Awards. The evening was a great chance for some of Sydney’s beer and cider fans to sample some of the best brews that Australian craft producers are currently making .
In a competition first, a Champion Cider trophy was awarded, with The Barossa Valley Cider Company Pty Ltd crowned the inaugural winner. Based in Nurioopta, South Australia, their Squashed Apple Cider was judged the standout in what is only the second year of judging cider as part of the Show.
An authentic tank fermented cider made from a special blend of South Australian apples, it is renowned for its full rich and creamy flavour, coupled with the perfect balance of fruit sweetness and acid, leaving a crisp finish.
Proud owners of The Barossa Valley Cider Company, brothers Oscar and Hugo Bowen grew up on the family vineyard before turning their hand to cider – a cider that is now judged Australia’s best.
Chief Judge, Neal Cameron was deeply impressed with the quality of brews, saying it was a sign of the continued drive for excellence in the Australian industry.
