2019 Australian Cider Awards

Well It’s that time of year. The 2019 Australian Cider Awards.

Cider Australia has announced the winners of its 2019 Australian Cider Awards at a gala dinner in Melbourne this evening. Barossa Cider Co – Squashed Apple Cider from South Australia won ‘Best in Show’, ‘Best New World Cider’ and ‘Best Australian Cider’ with a score of 97 in the New World Medium Sweet Cider class.

Scape Goat Cider is labelled as a premium cider. I doubt it, but I’m going to drink it to find out. 

I’m pretty suspicious about this cider. The label on the bottle, says it is made by Mccashins Brewery in New Zealand for Pinnacle Drinks in Australia. A few years ago, I got twitter message from this guy in Luxembourg “Hey do you want to try our Ramborn Cider? We had a call to arrange the shipment, “You’re in Austria, right? I’ll post you a few samples”. At which point I had to point out it was Australia, not Austria. Anyway after some back and forth I got the samples. One of those ciders went on to be named the best of the rest of the world in 2016. After that, they said if you are ever in the area come and visit.
