Batlow Road Apple Cider has just launched onto the market. If you have eaten an apple from a quality greengrocer you’ve probably eaten one of their apples. As with most orchardist wanting to make the most of their products, they have converted some apples into Cider.
A few years ago, I got twitter message from this guy in Luxembourg “Hey do you want to try our Ramborn Cider? We had a call to arrange the shipment, “You’re in Austria, right? I’ll post you a few samples”. At which point I had to point out it was Australia, not Austria. Anyway after some back and forth I got the samples. One of those ciders went on to be named the best of the rest of the world in 2016. After that, they said if you are ever in the area come and visit. So, while I was in Scotland this year, I decided why not jump on a flight over to see the lads at Ramborn Cider
Industry body Cider Australia is calling on the ACCC to separately consider the cider category when reviewing the proposed acquisition of Carlton & United Breweries by Asahi Beverages.
Asahi and AB InBev-owned CUB announced the deal on 19 July. The ACCC will now consider whether the proposed merger should go ahead based on whether is likely to substantially lessen competition in the alcoholic beverage market.
Entries open the 2019 Australian Cider Awards. The Competition will give producers the opportunity to benchmark their products against the best local and imported ciders available for sale in Australia. As the local cider industry ramps up its focus on quality and provenance. The winners will be announce at the awards dinner, held in Melbourne on the 8th of November.
